Introduction

Born in 1959 in Armenia, graduate of the National Institute of Fine Arts of Yerevan, Saré lives and works in France since 1991.

From the stage to the canvas

Evgenia Saré first made a name for herself by working in the performing arts.
She was responsible for the scenography of more than 40 theatrical productions and four film productions. These activities led her to research and explore various artistic techniques to enhance her characters.

She has also worked in ceramics, bronzes, etchings and monotypes, but since moving to Paris in 1991, she has devoted herself entirely to oil painting.

The acute art of Evgenia Saré

Each face created, funny and round, daring and rising, stands out admirably in the surfaces a little lunar of the bare expanses of Evgenia Saré. Its landscapes are strange hollowed out decorations for feverish humans. She erases in her the supports of the reality, and her sharp and surprising characters seem forever to animate a scabrous fairy tale for falsely naive adults, and touching to touch so strong in us the afflictions of the everyday life. Eternal unquenchable childhood…

A fairy tale of intimate transgressions

The face dominates frontally. It is a living stain, isolated, or duplicated in the carnal mirror of the couple, or crumbled in the canvas by a crowd of moving and too human beings, gathered by the game, the chance, the party, or the tenderness. Sumptuous theatricality of an ordinary abandoned by modernity, and superbly transgressed, by the inside.

It looks like matter smoothed and cared for by thousands of brushstrokes. One would say the surface polished and polished from the inside by thousands of glances, tenderized and respectful, slanting glances. All these elements corrode the surface of the work and burn the scattered elements with a bitter charm, deliciously perverse, like a fresh perfume of love crossing our intimate labyrinths.

Each work has the sacred hint of a timeless icon, and targets the common man. We get lost in recognizing ourselves. Small enjoyment of the unexpected expected, when the drowsy ordinary becomes a festive and fabulous show.

An innumerable and nicely scabrous body

The living flesh accents the expansiveness. Phantasmal corporeality, knotted and fluid, larval and dilated, overflowing with sensual joys. Milky and compact, assumed and swollen, the painted flesh of Evgenia Sare, of a very tasty density and a seizing proximity, is tinted of a very catchy bright pink, while the irony, acerbic and modest, latent and tight, takes the whole scene to its account. There is an air of absence, a rarefied atmosphere of light evil, of allusive sulfur, and of pleasant buffoonery. An air of abyss, undoubtedly, but made suave and breathable by the effect of a remarkably controlled and sumptuously worked chromatic. In the hollow of the delicate obscenity which animates each minimal scenography, are added the chaotic powers of a first body in ceremonial dress, archaic and precious body which would be the exemplary and hidden frame of all the other bodies.

Subtle traps for the eyes

Formidable and discreet magician, Evgenia Saré attacks the destiny of the common people. It plays of the certainties. It excavates and faults the vital appearances to better seize the peaceful joys of our lives of every day. Magic acting, secret and playful. It digs, as if playing, the unfathomable enigma of the existence. It searches the mystery of beings and spaces. She anchors herself very seriously to the grotesque and soft life which smoulders under the tired humanity. In this insidious and sorcerous, sovereign and subterranean art, the hidden world awakens in the hollow of the obvious, and something rustic and medieval rises and spreads. The murmurs of sarcasm have here royal right of quotation.

When modernity manufactures images to the point of losing sight of them, Evguenia Sare invents prodigious sleight of hand, creating subtle traps for glances, both loving and humorous.

Exhibiting the underside of the cultures, rare and deeply singular artist, Evgenia Saré embraces the expanse…
