“Crossing” reveals a dark cube at the heart of the composition. This is not black but “graphite” grey, i.e. anthracite grey with a metallic effect. The “graphite” paint is in relief, so it can “catch” the light and create streaks depending on its orientation. This contrasts with the transparency of the other blue cubes. This contrasting effect underlines the paradox of this very special crossing: a mixture of lightness and heaviness.
