MC Béguet : in the beginning, was the point.

Point by point, line by line, scrupulously arranged, sometimes superimposed, intermingled. It is from the smallest detail, the dot, that Marie-Christine Béguet’s work takes all its essence: in its wake are born the surfaces, from the matt and deep flatness to the transparent lightness of the parallelisms of imperfect lines, all in chiaroscuro. The colors are very present in this work; attenuated, they come to disturb the contrasts of the black and white, traced with care, so as not to lose the feeling of the nuances of tonalities. The evolution is random according to the days and the moods, the work is fine and sensitive; the result, dreamlike. There, in front of these lines led with grace and strength by MC Béguet who often rejects their abstraction, we read paintings and misty landscapes in the background of which the shadows that the imagination adorns wander. – Alice B. Meditation between the lines

The tip of the chisel enters the material. Gently pushed, the tool extracts a metal chip from the die leaving behind a hollow “v” shaped groove, this is where the printing ink will be lodged. MCB aligns the strokes, modifying their density, length and spacing until a graphic landscape is obtained. There, the lines are dense and strong like the shade of the canisses under the summer sun, elsewhere they are fine and give way to the white of the paper. By superimposing these different meshes, MCB succeeds in creating transparencies, the image acquires depth and is revealed in successive planes.

The curves are rare, but looking at these alignments one can’t help but think of the vinyl record. If one could produce a sound by “reading” his engraved plates one would probably hear the whisper of the radio in the silence of the studio during the long hours of creation. For MCB the practice of printmaking is a form of meditation, a meditation that is contagious and safe for the viewer. – Vincent Dezeuze, 2021
