    Introduction

Since his childhood, Stéphan Herrgott has been attracted to color and matter…

It is thus quite naturally that after five years of study at the Beaux-arts, including a year in Montreal in 1993, he pursues his path towards painting and sculpture to devote himself exclusively to them.

He develops a pictorial expression in the direction of free figuration and lyrical abstraction. From his four colors and white he plunges us into recognizable atmospheres where a very strong energy and great serenity coexist.

Water is the essential engine in my creation and my painting technique. It is water that conveys the pigments in a natural way, I do not master it, I tame it and by trusting it, it becomes my indispensable ally to transcribe all these emotions about nature, about human beings.

In his work, he strikes a subtle balance between intimacy and discovery, addressing the theme of connection and encounter. He also brings out in his work this permanent duality between presence and absence.

    My painting is my word,

    my 4 colors my alphabet,

    the white is my punctuation,

    and doubt is my syntax.

The notion of beauty is subjective and the false idea that art must be “beautiful” is often present in the public’s mind. However, art is there to make us react, to awaken emotions and reflections. We are attracted, we are indifferent, we are questioned, we may even be shocked … What is interesting is to feel, is how each of us will be challenged, is to try to understand what it reaches in us.

If some of his paintings also evoke this complex relationship of beings, others are very impregnated with the intensity of our environment.

Lover of nature and wide open spaces, it is also from his hikes in the mountains and his travels that his creations are nourished.

From his contemplative retreats comes a balanced work between dynamism and serenity, between noise and silence.

A professional artist since 1994, Stephan Herrgott’s work can now be found in several major European galleries.

His work is also regularly exhibited in major international art fairs (Paris, Lyon, Mulhouse, Strasbourg, Lille, Nantes, Metz, Toulouse, Nice, Montpellier, Annecy, Brussels, Antwerp, Gant, Luxembourg, Amsterdam, Lausanne, Montreux, Milan, Copenhagen, London, Tokyo) and at the Dalian Museum of Contemporary Art in China.
